So Cory did A TON of press this last week in Canada, including lots of articles/interviews and events. This is the post for all of the articles and interviews and here they are!

First is an interview with The TV Addict.

It may surprise you to learn that GLEE star Cory Monteith and the TV Addict go way back.

Before he became everyone’s favorite singing jock, Monteith and his fellow GLEE clubbers were hangin’ with me on the set of what would soon become the most buzzed about show in recent memory, asking what I and several other reporters thought of their little “we’re singin’ and dancin’ and we’re not gonna be the next COP ROCK” show.

Okay, frankly, none of them are old enough to remember COP ROCK. But I digress.

During that meeting back in March, the cast wanted to know if we, the TV journalists with our fingers on the pulse of the pop-culture beat, thought this show would connect with a large enough audience to prevent it from tap dancing to an early grave. They seemed genuinely concerned that America wouldn’t “get” what they were doing and would throw a metaphorical slushie in their faces.

“Glee,” it has been said, “is like High School Musical … if someone had punched it in the stomach and taken its lunch money.”

I have been quoting that incredibly apt description of the runaway hit musical comedy series (Wednesdays at 9 on Fox and Global) ever since its debut … without knowing who originally said it.

Mystery solved. “That was me,” grins Cory Monteith, Glee’s Calgary-born star, in Toronto this week on a quick swing through Canada after appearing on Saturday’s hometown Gemini broadcast.

“There may have been a trace of bitterness in there,” he allows. “I was really getting tired of people comparing the two, because Glee is so not High School Musical.

“So you now have my express permission to use that quote whenever you want.”

Then, an article about what Cory said about his and Lea’s relationship.

The last place you’d expect to find America’s most popular high school student is on the drums at the Gemini awards backing up Loverboy in Calgary. However, Cory Monteith, the 27-year-old Canadian Glee star, spent this past Saturday evening doing just that.

“I am what I am,” Monteith says, laughing and still shaking off a dizzying 24 hours that saw him spirited away to Toronto following his performance of Working for the Weekend on the show. “What’s even freakier than playing an all-American high school jock is seeing my face with that little Global triangle attached to it. A year and a half ago, I lived in Canada and watched that channel. I’m used to seeing Hugh Laurie with that thing, not me.”

Glee is a quintessentially American TV show. It’s about a high-school glee club, after all, and football jocks and high-school cheerleaders.

But one of the breakout hit’s breakout stars is a Canadian — Victoria-born Cory Monteith, who these days prefers to call himself a “Vancouver-based” actor.

Monteith will be one of the presenters at this weekend’s Gemini Awards in Calgary, saluting the best in Canadian TV.
